Laura Fernandez

... is a native New Yorker and a professional actress, mime and clown who has worked in her field for the past 35 years.  She has studied acting and mime with Moni Yakim and was a member of his New York Pantomime Theatre,  performing  with them at engagements in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Laura has also studied physical theater with Le Theatre du Mouvement , clown with Jango Edwards, Bill Irwin and  and theatre composition with Anne Bogart.

As co-founder of the Lunatech Mime Coalition, a mime-theatre duo,  Laura has toured throughout Germany performing original works. She has performed with Die Traumtänzer, a Frankfurt based movement theatre group and has written and performed with Miki Malör, the  Viennese Clown/Musician.  She has  numerous film roles to her credit, including television and music videos. Laura Fernandez is an accomplished teacher of mime and movement and has taught classes and workshops for the past 30 years in the U.S., Europe and Puerto Rico.  Her experience is wide, reaching from clown and mime workshops, to children's movement exploration to physical comedy to movement for professional actors and singers.  She specializes in workshops for hospital personnel, therapists and social workers on the benefits of using humor as a healing tool.

In 1986, Laura joined the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit as a Clown Doctor, where she remained for 6 1/2 years. She ventured to Germany and founded Die Clown Doktoren, e.V., the first established group in Germany to visit children's hospital and where from 1993 to 2006 she worked as Artistic Director and Clown. Since 2007, she is a member of the KlinikClowns Bayern e.V. She clowns for children and senior citizens alike.

She also performs in a Duo with her partner Hanna Linde. She is artistic director of the HHH foundation of Dr. Eckard von Hirschhausen. She is coach and teacher for Clinic Clowns worldwide.
