Their secret? They possess an in-built survival kit: the ability to stay deeply rooted in the game and never lose sight of the comedy. When things get tough they don't waste time on self-pity. Instead they turn distaster into laughter with creativity and boldness. If we want to give memorable performances, staying playful under any circumstance is an essential skill. But it's not easy. When events turn against us or knock the wind out of our sails, our light-hearteness, ingenuity, idiocy and absurd logic tend to evaporate - precisely when we need them most.
In this workshop, you'll train to keep your survival kit with you at all times. You'll practise responding playfully to unforseen events; such as when failure, bad news or disaster come calling. I'm impressed with how Caroline knows exactly how/when to gently interrupt someone in the middle of improv-ing to help guide the act for the better. She's not pushy, but she's not soft, either. It's a difficult balance to achieve and I think she does it very well....It's an incredible thing to be able to learn with so many different people/places/cultures all in the same "room" together...this is exactly what the technology of the internet and things like Zoom are for—none of this weaponized data center destroying the earth type sh*t, but really bringing people together to learn interesting things such as the art of clowning.
When I took my first online clown course, I was hesitant because it felt so absurd to think that an artform so deeply rooted in the LIVE could possibly be bridged online. However, while naturally one's first preference is to take something like this in-person, this is a world-class training course in how to approach it once you ARE in person. It's exactly that—training. It's not like were producing an actual clown show, just working on the craft. So it absolutely serves the right purpose in this sense.
